Erling Haaland has been voted the best football player in the world, according to a poll of 200 journalists from 96 countries conducted by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS). The 22-year-old Norwegian striker beat out Lionel Messi, Kai Havertz, Cristiano Ronaldo, Bukayo Saka, Mohamed Salah, Cole Palmer, and Declan Rice for the top spot.

Haaland has enjoyed a stellar year, scoring 27 goals in 28 appearances for Manchester City in all competitions. He has also scored 6 goals in 5 Champions League games. His goalscoring prowess has helped City win the Premier League title and reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Messi, Ronaldo, and Salah were all in contention for the award, but Haaland's outstanding form this season has seen him edge out the competition. Messi has won the Ballon d'Or a record seven times, while Ronaldo has won it five times. Salah won the Premier League Golden Boot last season with 23 goals.

The IFFHS also released a list of the top 100 male footballers in the world, with Haaland at the top of the pile. Messi, Ronaldo, Salah, and Kevin De Bruyne make up the top five, while Jude Bellingham, Sadio Mane, Vinicius Junior, and Luka Modric are also among the top 10.
